Greetings. I am Kang Heui CHA, CEO of the Seoul Design Foundation.
It is a great honor and pleasure to embark on the journey toward the 35th World Design Congress (World Design Congress 2027 Seoul) here in Seoul—a city that has grown into a world-class design hub centered around the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP).
On October 14, 2026, the Seoul Design Foundation will host the World Design Congress 2027 Seoul Preview, taking a bold step toward next year’s main event. Building upon the legacy of the London Congress, which highlighted “Design for Planet,” this congress will put into action our core theme and slogan: “Think, Make, Change.”
In particular, this congress will serve as a premier forum bringing together cutting-edge discourse on the convergence of AI and design—a defining theme of our era—alongside industry-academic collaboration to address global challenges. Through papers and poster presentations submitted by leading scholars, researchers, and industry leaders worldwide, we will deepen the academic rigor and focus on concrete, actionable solutions that extend beyond imagination and theory into real life and industry applications.
Following the 22nd Congress in 2001 and the World Design Capital (WDC) Seoul in 2010, returning to DDP for the World Design Congress 2027 Seoul marks a landmark milestone that will demonstrate the impact of the design industry and culture both in Korea and across the globe.
Starting with the Preview event this October and leading up to the main congress in 2027, we invite the global design community and future generations to join us in shaping this meaningful journey. The Seoul Design Foundation looks forward to welcoming you to the most innovative and memorable stage.

안녕하십니까, 서울디자인재단 대표이사 차강희입니다.
글로벌 디자인 허브인 동대문디자인플라자(DDP)를 중심으로 세계적 디자인 도시로 성장해 온 서울에서 ‘제35회 세계디자인총회(World Design Congress 2027 Seoul)’의 여정을 여러분과 함께 시작하게 되어 매우 기쁩니다.
서울디자인재단은 2026년 10월 14일, ‘세계디자인총회 2027 서울 프리뷰’의 막을 올리며 내년 본 행사를 향한 담대한 걸음을 내딛습니다. 이번 총회는 지난 런던총회에서 강조되었던 ‘지구를 살리는 디자인’의 유산을 이어받아, ‘생각하고(Think), 만들고(Make), 변화를 이끌어낸다(Change)’라는 핵심 주제와 슬로건을 실천하고자 합니다.
특히 이번 총회는 오늘날 시대를 관통하는 AI와 디자인의 융합, 그리고 지구적 과제를 해결하기 위한 산학협력의 최첨단 담론이 모이는 자리가 될 것입니다. 전 세계의 석학과 연구자, 산업계 리더들이 제출하는 논문과 포스터를 통해 학술적 깊이를 더하고, 상상과 이론에 머무르지 않고 실제 삶과 산업 현장에 적용 가능한 구체적이고 실현 가능한 해법을 집중적으로 논의할 것입니다.
